Geography

The Geography department provides a stimulating and progressive learning and teaching environment for both staff and students. We develop issues based programmes of study and resources for all Key Stages to engender independent learning and a sense of enquiry and use ICT and the VLE extensively in the delivery of the curriculum. The progressive syllabus offered by WJEC/OCR Avery Hill at GCSE and Edexcel B at A level are followed. The subject is a popular option at Key Stages 4 and 5 and the department has an excellent record of exam success ( 95% A-C at GCSE and 88% A-C at A2 for 2006).

There is an extensive programme of fieldwork for each year group. Residential field trips to Wales are organised for both GCSE and A Level students. We aim to incorporate visits to Europe in the coming year. A World Wise club is run by staff within the department to mark world events such as Amnesty International Week, Fairtrade Fortnight. A Geography Discussion Forum to discuss wider geographical issues will be set up next year for KS4 and 5 students and we aim to develop close links with a variety of schools from around the world.
