Curriculum Intent for Design and Technology
The Design and Technology Department at Valentines High School are dedicated to delivering an ambitious and engaging curriculum, providing the broadest possible range of opportunities for students, regardless of their circumstances. The departments’ goal is to develop self-motivated, confident, and creative learners, preparing them for life after Valentine’s.
DT1
We provide this from our stimulating schemes of work through various opportunities inside and beyond the classroom delivered in sequential order and guiding students from investigating and acquiring theories to designing and creating, through to analysing and testing their designs. By the end of Key Stage 3, our students are equipped with vital life skills: cooking healthy and delicious food, repairing and restoring their damaged clothes, and giving them the confidence to do DIY around their homes.
DT2
A key focus running through all strands of DT is sustainability. The designers of tomorrow must be conscious of the impact they have on our planet. Students will develop technical and practical skills valued by employers. Students leave us feeling confident, inspired, resilient and academically ready to pursue their dreams of attending university and securing a career in the Design, Engineering, and Nutritional industry.
