Curriculum Intent Statement for Modern Foreign Languages
Through the continued improvement of their communication skills, students will develop the knowledge and skills required through the exploration of French and Spanish culture, literacy and way of life, giving them a detailed understanding and appreciation of different cultures.
This will inspire student’s curiosity and fascination about the world, its people and the understanding of unfamiliar and diverse places.
During KS3 students explore an introduction to family, friends, local areas/living and a cultural awareness of French/Spanish life. This happens through literature, translation, grammar, reading and writing, all key skills required at both GCSE and A-Level. Throughout KS4 students develop further their understanding of French/Spanish culture, including the exploration of the environment, relationships and an increased cultural awareness. Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing continue to develop in preparation for GCSE exams. Throughout KS5 Students are able to consolidate their understanding of French/Spanish culture, including literature (study of text), heritage, health and politics. Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing continue to develop in preparation for A-level exams.
